This year we have seen an increased presence of stories, issues and information in the media related to the health and well-being of doctors and medical students in Australia.
We at Doctors' Health SA attempt to keep abreast of most of the articles as it is vital we know what is happening for our doctors and students as well as share that information further afield. Some of the articles we share on our Facebook and LinkedIn pages. However we acknowledge that not everyone is on social media nor has the time to scroll through posts and links.
Our Medical Director, Dr Roger Sexton reviews some of the articles and requests that we share with our doctors and medical students. Below are the most recent articles he has found insightful, relevant and important to inform all the medical profession about:
- The health of doctors was recently highlighted on the SBS program "Insight" following the suicide of junior doctors around Australia http://www.sbs.com.au/news/insight/tvepisode/critical-care
- A really insightful article, "The resilience myth in medicine", by Dr Geoff Toogood, Cardiologist and founder of #crazysocsfordocs day social media campaign - published on the MJA Insight doctorsportal
- An article about working together to address the doctor suicide issue "Picking up the pieces" published in on the AMA(NSW) DIT Diary
There are also some great blogs written by doctors whom you may like to follow including:
Dr Eric Levi, a Melbourne-trained Australian Specialist Otolaryngologist, Ear Nose & Throat, Head & Neck Surgeon. Eric writes and speaks regularly on other Medical Matters close to his heart including Leadership, Social Media, Communication, Teaching and Doctors’ Well-being. - Dr Levi's Blog
