Board of Directors

DHSA Ltd has a current board of 6 directors. Directors are constitutionally appointed for a three-yearly term.


Dr Andrew Lavender - Chair

Dr Lavender is a full-time staff anaesthetist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He has been a past AMA(SA) President and was President of the AMA at the time of establishment of Doctors’ Health SA Ltd. He has a strong interest in doctors’ health and in particular, the welfare of surgeons and anaesthetists. Dr Lavender joined the Board in 2010.

Ms Alyson Smith

M Hlth Serv Mgt; B Ed (Prof Dev); Dip T (Nse Ed); Registered Nurse

Alyson Smith is a Registered Nurse and is the Principal Consultant for Alyson Smith Consulting Pty Ltd. She provides national and international consultancy services in health profession regulation; nursing and midwifery education and accreditation; and health care policy.

Alyson is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and a Board Director with the Rural Doctors Workforce Agency (SA) since 2013. She was appointed to the DHSA Board in 2020 as the RDWA Board nominee.

Alyson has worked in a range of executive and senior leadership positions in health profession regulation at state, national and international level; nursing and midwifery education and accreditation as well as health care policy and quality improvement at both state and national level.

Alyson is currently a Board Director for the Cambodian Association of Nurses (established February 2019); a member of the Australian College of Nursing (ACN); and past Chair and previously Deputy Chair of the ACN SA Region (2018-2022).

Dr Natasha Bullock

Natasha is a current Doctor in Training within the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network having completed internship within the Central Adelaide Local Health Network in 2020.

Prior to studying post-graduate medicine, Natasha held numerous senior roles within the health and not-for-profit sector. Natasha has extensive experience within residential and community aged care services, disability services and mental health and wellbeing services, having held senior management positions within organisations servicing these sectors prior to studying medicine.

Natasha is a member of the Australian institute of Company Directors having completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors course in 2015. She also holds a Master of Business Administration (Exec), a Bachelor of Health Sciences and Bachelor of Social Sciences. Between 2012 and 2019, Natasha was a board member of Home Support Services Pty Ltd.

In 2019, Natasha completed her post-graduate Doctor of Medicine at the University of Notre Dame. She is a current committee member of the Training Medical Officers Committee for the South Australian Salaried Medical Officers Association and a Junior Medical Officer Committee Member of the Flinders RMO Society.

Natasha joined the Doctors' Health SA Ltd Board in October 2021.

Mr Andrew Forman

Andrew retired from PricewaterhouseCoopers in December 2021 following 35 years of service including over 20 years as a partner. He has extensive experience in financial and governance matters including audit, accounting, financial reporting, risk management and internal control. He has been involved in many large corporate transactions, including buy-side due diligence.

He has experience across many sectors and with businesses ranging from small private companies to some of the largest listed companies globally. He has worked in Adelaide, Melbourne, San Francisco and Beijing. Andrew prides himself on the quality of his relationships and is highly respected amongst peers and executives.

Andrew is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has completed the Company Directors Course. He has an Accountancy degree and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand.

Andrew was appointed to the Doctors’ Health SA Board in April 2022.

Dr Maura Kenny

Maura is a consultant psychiatrist with SA Health, and a recognised mindfulness teacher, trainer, keynote speaker and researcher with 20 years of experience of teaching mindfulness courses in both clinical and organisational settings. She held a teaching partner position with the Oxford Mindfulness Centre at Oxford University for several years, co-founded a Mindfulness Teacher Training Institute, and chaired an international committee on mindfulness teacher training.

Her special interest is the wellbeing and resilience of healthcare staff and she has developed a 6 week mindfulness courses have been running for several years in SA’s public health setting and in other healthcare and university settings around Australia, the UK, Singapore and Taiwan. In recent years she has trained in Compassion-Focussed Therapy with the Compassionate Mind Foundation, UK and in Compassion in Health Care with the Kings Fund, NHS, enriching the delivery of course and interventions that recognise this specific driver of medical staff burnout and stress.

Maura is also the Director of Staff Wellbeing in CALHN, SA Health and was appointed to the Doctors' Health SA Board in October 2022.

Ms Anna Young

Anna Young is a Senior Associate in Cowell Clarke Commercial Lawyer’s Corporate and Commercial team. Anna is experienced in advising clients across various sectors and businesses, including not-for-profit, medical research, technology and defence. Experience includes managing commercial transactions and corporate restructures, complex and ongoing legal projects, and contract drafting and negotiation.

Anna’s experience as a Corporate and Commercial Lawyer is complemented by prior experience in diverse roles, including as a Commercial Manager and Business Development Manager. She is a current member of the Law Society of South. Anna was appointed to the Doctors' Health SA Board in October 2023.
